Geant des Batailles - Oleander - Nerium oleander
"Geant des Batailles" ist eine alte Standardsorte mit dicken, steifen Trieben. Sie ist starkwüchsig und wächst mehr in die Breite als in die Höhe. Die Triebe nehmen dabei alle Richtungen. Ständiger Rückschnitt, um die Form zu wahren, ist deshalb anzuraten. "GdB" hat gefüllte, rote, stark duftende Blüten, die für eine gefüllte Sorte recht regenfest sind. Die Blüten haben eine weiße Zeichnung (siehe Foto), was auch bei anderen Sorten vom "Splendens Typ" zu finden ist. Für eine gefüllt blühende Sorte recht ungewöhnlich ist, das sich der Blütenstand bei "GdB" selbst reinigt. Das heißt, Verblühtes fällt selbst ab und muss nicht mit viel Aufwand entfernt werden, was bei großen Pflanzen schon mal nerven kann. "GdB" findet man oft in Gartencentern und wird dort als "Revanche" angeboten. Wer also einen rot und gefüllt blühenden Oleander besitzt, kann davon ausgehen, dass es sich um "GdB" handelt.
